Anatoli

Anatoli, the picturesque village with the unbeatable view at an altitude of 1200 m in Kissavos. It is built amphitheatrically hooked on the mountain which shows us that the human will can accomplish anything, with a cobblestone square and alleys, springs with cool water from the mountain, running and refreshing the visitor.

In this enchanting village we will find at 3.5 km the female Monastery of the Holy Forerunner built in the early 1980s, the Post-Byzantine hermitage as well as the old Monastery of the holy martyr Saint Damianos built in 1550. Today the international women’s brotherhood that was established in 2000 restored the building and develops a remarkable ecological and agro-tourism activity.

East, the old name of Selitsiani, of Slavic origin, which hides many ecclesiastical treasures and unique nature. We can continue to the top of Kissavos on a magical route and rest near the chapel of Prophet Elias, which is built below the surface of the ground. However, if we want to stay in the village, we can visit the Ecclesiastical Museum and the cultural center with a permanent photo exhibition on the daily life of the inhabitants in the past.

In the center of the village there is an arched bridge from 1860 preserved in excellent condition ready to be visited, as well as the lower square, the water square, the chapel of the Virgin Mary with a stunning view, the metochi of the Monastery of the Forerunner of Aghios Panteleimonas from 1641 and the Monastery of the Virgin Mary from 1500 (in the ravine before the village of Dimitra).

Many trails for hiking enthusiasts, a festival on August 15th with great participation. The summer custom of the Alonias has a special place. We will see the revival of threshing by residents of the East in a traditional way at the stone threshing floor of Aghios Panteleimonas with sickles, animals and adokanis, the Panthessalian festival of exchanging local seeds that takes place on the second Saturday of September at the Monastery of the Forerunner of Aghios Panteleimonas. Timios Prodromos, as well as the mushroom festival every two years in October and of course for those who love food and tsipouraki, exquisite flavors in the taverns of the square.
