Information
Agia, the metropolis of our Municipality, our beautiful town and capital, is amphitheatrically built at the foot of Kissavos, with a view of the Dotio Plain and the Amyriki Plain
The Amyros River crosses central Agia and part of the Thessalian Plain and ends at Lake Karla. A real oasis with trees and flowers on its banks and stone bridges connecting its beds.
Small groves and parks cool us in the summer and in the winter they give us beautiful snowy images.
A semi-urban town with a strategic position in antiquity, it experienced great economic prosperity in later years. The residents were engaged in sericulture, dyeing cotton threads and were in direct contact with Europe due to trade.
An example of its flourishing are the Neoclassical buildings that we will encounter on our walk through narrow streets and small bridges: the Alexoulis Mansion, a 19th century building, the Petrakis Mansion from the early 20th century, and the Karavidas-Kalogerou Tower from 1791, a sample of the old architecture of Agia.
A large part of it is also its churches that belong to the late Byzantine and post-Byzantine period, such as the Church of Agios Georgios, the Holy Monastery of the Presentation of the Theotokos – Saint Panteleimon (1292 AD), the Holy Monastery of the Holy Apostles, the Holy Monastery of the Holy Archangels, the Holy Church of Christ, and the Holy Monastery of the Holy Trinity.
But today we will also see the modern Agia, framed by its monuments but present in the dictates of the 21st century
Once the philhellene traveler Pouqueville wrote about Agia “Agia is presented as an oasis amidst springs and streams, as another paradise”. Today we will not disagree at all since it continues to be another paradise!

Almost all services are operational, there is an organized market, a relic museum, a theater, a music school and two hostels.
