Information
Kokkino Nero, the port of the village of Karitsa. A coastal settlement amidst verdant ravines and centuries-old plane trees. A small stone belly, one of the oldest settlements in the area according to the Ephorate of Antiquities, but also one of the first holiday destinations in the country since the early 1900s.
However, the primacy continues today as it is chosen among the four best holiday areas by Czechs and Poles.
In Kokkino Nero, the tourist season begins in May and ends in early October. The coast with crystal clear waters is divided into two beaches, one with coarse pebbles for the adventurous with a fantastic landscape and an island feel, and the other with sand and trees with natural shade.
The village is crossed by two streams with rich vegetation on their edges and many bridges connecting their sides. Leaving the settlement towards the provincial road at 200 m. there is a natural individual swimming pool of thermal red water in the wild. The mineral water has a temperature of four degrees and is thermal according to its licensing.
From here begins the path to the waterfalls of the nymph “Calypso” of unique beauty, a place that people of alternative tourism will love by doing a canyoning descent. In the village, artificial swimming pools with water that comes from the spring were recently built, here the mineral water has a temperature of seven degrees.
Here we can also take a mud bath that will give us health and beauty. There is drinking water from the spring nearby, it is not bottled although Greeks and foreigners have tried to do so in the past. The water is carbonated, mineral clear, but its prolonged contact with utensils, stones, soil leaves a red color from which the settlement got its name.
And a short tour of the special Byzantine bridge of Paparizena as well as inside the tree-lined settlement will reward us for our choice to spend our holidays in the unique Kokkino Nero.
