An amphitheatrically built village, in Mavrovouni, literally drowned in trees, the ultimate destination for every nature lover. It was founded in a fortified position, during the Turkish occupation, to avoid pirate raids. Local tradition tells us that the village took its name from a centuries-old alder -tree- that existed there..

On our walk through the village we will find ourselves in stone alleys, squares at various levels, in springs on the road with drinking water, in the amazing tavern for the very demanding, and we will walk among flowery courtyards with wonderful scents that will surely win our hearts.

Another suggestion is the path that leads from the village to the coast “Mylos Glymmeni” and the old mines. It is worth visiting the hewn stone bridge, the watermill and the church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul as well as the chapels of Prophet Elias, St. John and St. Nicholas.

In the summer months we can also visit the Folklore Museum of the village and in October the mushroom festival. The mushroom lovers here organize mushroom cooking, which is why we all take our baskets and knives on a Sunday in October and search for wild mushrooms in the forest of Mavrovouni with the guidance of experienced mushroom pickers.
