Stomio

AREA

Information

Stomio is the old name of Tsagezi “the mouth of the river” during the years of Turkish rule. An endless wide sandy beach with shallow waters, the Miami of Greece! It is separated from the settlement by the fjords of Pinios. To reach the beach we pass over picturesque wooden bridges.

An ideal place for surfing and kite lovers. During the day the weather will certainly be kind to them and they will open their sails and kites. We can also play beach volleyball on such a large beach.

In the fall we may find cyclists of various nationalities on our way, descending the top of Kissavos through beautiful and signposted routes.

In Stomio there is the famous Royal pine tree, unique in its kind, the lighthouse, the trademark of the port, which according to historical evidence we believe was the northernmost port of Ancient Greece, the Late Byzantine Monastery of the 16th century with part of the building surviving from the previous phase of the 14th century.

Kemal Ataturk’s father lived and worked here for some years, and travelers passed through here who recorded the great history of the place from antiquity to the present day.

Today it is one of the popular tourist destinations, and is rightly considered a tourist resort.
